                    Seek Him Early

April 22, 2005

Psalm 63:1 says, “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.” (KJV)  David wrote this when he was in the wilderness of Judah.   He was on the run from King Saul. (See 1 Samuel 23:14)   King Saul had been trying to kill David because he was jealous of David.   David refused to raise a hand against King Saul because he understood the anointing of God on a person and on a position of leadership.   You may have problems on your job today with someone that is in authority over you.   The worst thing you can do is struggle against them.   Take it to the Lord in prayer and He will take care of it for you.  (See 1 Peter 5:5-7)   1 Samuel 24 shows us how King Saul finally gave up trying to kill David.   And when it was all over, David came out of that situation smelling like a rose.

Now, David said he would seek God early.   What hour of the day is early for you today?   Early is when your day starts.   Are you a night shift worker?   Your “early” may be 2 P.M. if you work what is known as a “second shift”.   Do you work the  “graveyard shift”, late night to early morning?   If so, then your “early” may be 10 P.M. at night.    Are you a “day shift worker”?   Your “early” may be 5 or 6 in the morning.    The point is to make time for the Lord before we start our day.   Life is a journey.   Unless you are 100 per cent sure of where you are going and how you are going to get there, you might find yourself in the wrong place.   Would you take a trip to a new destination without consulting a map?   So why would you take your journey through life without consulting the One who has a plan mapped out for you?  (See Jeremiah 29:11)

Early does not only pertain to your workday.   Early can also pertain to a situation that you know you will have to face or something that has unexpectedly come upon you.   Do not wait until the problem gets unbearable before you “seek the Lord” in prayer.   Jesus is the answer to all man’s problems, and that includes your problems, too.      In talking to Him daily, you will come to have a love relationship with Him.  You will fall in love with reading your Bible.   That Book is the Word of God.  It is ALIVE!    It will captivate you.  You will fall in love and begin to walk in love toward others because He is Love.   Love is one of His Names!

God wants to meet your every need.   Read John 15:7 and 1 John 5:10-15.   Take time to look at these scriptures and read them aloud, allowing your ears hear those words!

Remember start your day with prayer.   You will need to make time to spend with the Lord.   Just a few minutes at first, but then as your relationship with him builds, you will gladly “go to the Lord in prayer”.
